Simona Garufi, the art of ephemeral Architecture with a human dimension

08/12/2021 · 3 Min Read

New entry for our blog in which we have Simona Garufi Studio as the protagonist. A long history in the world of architecture, mainly associated with the interior design, has enabled her to achieve a highly conceptual style. In this case, each element is designed and produced in an inextricable relationship with the mind.

We like her philosophy “nothing is left to chance“. For Simona, each element is part of a beautiful and essential design. But, in addition, this chain is full of warmth, vitality and strong contrasts.

In this sense, the customer is always playing an active and fundamental role. It is the epicenter and part of each stage of the process. Simona brings creativity to her projects, thanks to her artistic and theatrical training. Without a doubt, she is the key to conceptualizing the project.

We invite you to visit the website (click here) and her Instagram channel (click here).

How do you synthesize it in a short phrase what is Interior Design for you?

Interior Design, for me, is the way of taking the Architecture into a human dimension, building the space with a functional and aesthetic style, listening in each phase of the project to the needs of the client.

What can you tell us about the intangible value of the design?

A well-made design has many intangible values. They make the piece complete from different points of view. For example, in the case of a product design, an ephemeral architecture project or interior design. In this way, an emotional connection with the client (or the visitor) is produced and the design is transmitted in a special way, acquiring much more practical and constructive values.

Inside the real world interior, what is the role of the furniture design project?

The furniture plays a fundamental role in the world of Interior Design. It is not only practical, beautiful, or functional; it also provides balance in a project, taking the space to a higher personal level.

In my projects I try to draw the pieces when the client’s situation allows it. In an interior design project, the architecture of the space is complementary to the furniture, which also became part of the architecture. The furniture, therefore, is part of the space. When possible, I chose pieces of furniture that have a double function of architecture and decoration.

Set design for the Netflix series “Valeria” in the latest edition of Casa Decor

Of your entire career, what project or projects would you highlight as the most relevant in which you have participated?

The fairs and events have given me the opportunity to experiment in a deeper level of freedom. Casa Decor, Decoration, Beauty and the latest edition of Marbella Design has granted moments of true creativity.

in the last 10 years, we have had the opportunity tho face different challenges. From the creation of true architectures, such as the art gallery in C!Print for Clorofila Digital in 2016, to very conceptual interior design projects, like Nyumba and Sanaa restaurants for the 2014 edition of Millesime. Likewise, publicity installations for brands such as Hyundai, or the reinterpretation of a set design for the Netflix series “Valeria” in the latest edition of Casa Decor.

All these projects give me the opportunity to create, invent, experiment with materials and different concepts.

Finally, how do you perceive the present and the future of interior design?

The future is already the present in Interior Design. With the Coronavirus crisis, the home and also the office, changed completely.

A special attention to the functional spaces, and a correct lighting or acoustic solutions, have to be considered when it comes to finding a project. If, on the one hand, the office enters the house, the need to live in a comfortable and relaxing environment is the priority. For other people. shared spaces are once again protagonists and technology plays a relevant role, with automatic doors, home automation or smart bathrooms.

The creation of multipurpose spaces is, without a doubt, the key to understanding the interior design of the post-Covid era.
